Nebraska’s continuing education standards are unique. The Board does not define specific subject areas or activity types that qualify. Instead, it relies on the continuing education requirements established by other state licensing boards.

The Board recognizes two categories of professional engineers:

  1. Engineers already subject to a mandatory continuing education program in another state:
    • Nebraska will accept that engineer's compliance with the other state’s requirements.
    • No additional Nebraska-specific hours or topics are required.
    • Title 110 of the Nebraska Administrative Code states:
"The continuing education requirements for Nebraska will be satisfied when a licensee is certified to be licensed in, and as having met the mandatory continuing education requirements of an NCARB* or NCEES** jurisdiction for the period of time in question."
  2. Engineers not participating in a mandatory continuing education program in another state:
    • Must complete 30 actual hours of engineering learning during the biennial renewal period.
    • The Board defines “one actual hour of learning” as at least 50 minutes of verifiable educational activity.
    • Each engineer must obtain an Engineering Continuing Education (ECE) that aligns with NCEES jurisdiction standards.
    • In practice, engineers should follow the continuing education rules of any other state that mandates CE for professional engineers.
