Nebraska Continuing Education Requirements for Professional Engineers and Architects

The Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects does not require pre-approval of course providers or specific courses. Each licensee is responsible for determining whether an activity meets the Board’s continuing education (CE) requirements.

All required CE hours for engineers and architects can be completed through DiscountPDH.com, provided that at least 75% of the required hours are earned through live webinars. Nebraska allows a limited portion of the hours to be completed through online (self-paced) courses.

Professional Engineers (PE)

  • Total requirement: 30 PDH every two years
  • Accepted formats:
    • Live webinars: up to 100% (minimum 75% or 22.5 hours required)
    • Online self-paced courses: up to 25% or 7.5 hours

Registered Architects (RA)

  • Total requirement: 24 PDH every two years
  • Accepted formats:
    • Live webinars: up to 100% (minimum 75% or 18 hours required)
    • Online self-paced courses: up to 25% or 6 hours

Rule 9.3.1 - Web-Based Offerings

Web-based course offerings provided by the following types of organizations may constitute the entire biennial requirement:
  1. International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) approved providers
  2. Institutions of higher education with accredited programs in architecture or engineering
  3. Professional engineering or architectural societies
  4. Nationally recognized technical societies and associations
  5. Governmental agencies 6. NCARB or NCEES

Web-based courses provided by other types of providers may count for no more than one-fourth of the biennial requirement - equivalent to 6 hours for architects or 7.5 hours for engineers.

Rule 9.3.2 clarifies that web-based courses led by an instructor in real time - allowing two-way interaction between the instructor and participants - are not restricted under Rule 9.3.1.
