Course Summary:

The simple curve is an arc of a circle. It is the most commonly used. The radius of the circle determines the “sharpness” or “flatness” of the curve. The larger the radius, the “flatter” the curve.

Surveyors often have to use a compoundcurve because of the terrain. This curve normally consists of two simple curves curving in the same direction and joined together.

Learning Objective:

Upon completion of this course the participant will learn:

  • How to locate to points using angles and distances
  • How to establish the line of a curve for road layout or some other construction

  • Simple horizontal curves
  • Obstacles to curve location
  • Compound and reverse curves
  • Transition spirals
