Course summary:
The provisions of the course require minimum accepted practices and the use of standards for the design and construction of masonry structures and elements of structures. The provisions address: material specifications and test methods; types of wall construction; criteria for engineered design (by working stress and strength design methods); criteria for empirical design; required details of construction and other aspects of masonry, including execution of construction. The provisions are intended to result in safe and durable masonry. The provisions of this course are also intended to prescribe minimum accepted practices for the design and construction of glass unit masonry, masonry fire places, masonry heaters and masonry chimneys.
